Tom Brady Says Ankle Feels Good as Patriots Arrive in Arizona

By Erik Matuszewski

Jan. 28 (Bloomberg) -- New England quarterback Tom Brady said his injured right ankle is ``feeling good'' and that he'll be ready to play in the Super Bowl against the New York Giants.

Brady and his Patriots teammates met with the media last night in Glendale, Arizona, after arriving from Foxborough, Massachusetts. The National Football League's championship game will be played Feb. 3 at University of Phoenix Stadium.

``I will be ready to go,'' Brady, this season's NFL Most Valuable Player, said at a news conference. ``It has been a good week. I think the team has practiced hard, although I haven't practiced. But I have watched them practice hard and I think we are pretty well caught up mentally.''

Brady, 30, said he hurt his ankle during the third quarter of the Patriots' 21-12 win over the San Diego Chargers in the American Football Conference title game on Jan. 20.

He hadn't commented publicly on the injury until last night, though he was photographed wearing a walking cast last week in New York while visiting the apartment of his girlfriend, supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

``I was just trying to get into the house as fast as I could,'' Brady said. ``So I was trying to just hobble along. It kind of caught me off guard.''

Brady, who threw an NFL-record 50 touchdowns during the regular season, hasn't practiced since the AFC Championship. He said he hopes to return to the field in two days.

``I am not concerned about how it is going to affect my playing,'' said Brady, who helped lead the Patriots to Super Bowl victories in 2002, 2004 and 2005. ``I can't run anyway so it is not going to have much of an impact.''

The Patriots have an 18-0 record and are seeking to join the ranks of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only team in NFL history to go undefeated and win a Super Bowl title.

The 13-6 Giants, who lost to New England 38-35 during the final week of the regular season, last won a Super Bowl title in 1991. They are scheduled to arrive in Arizona today.
