May 11 (Bloomberg) -- The Detroit Red Wings scored two first-period goals to beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 and take a two- game lead in the National Hockey League's Western Conference finals.
Henrik Zetterberg scored the Red Wings' first goal on a power play with 15:13 left in the first quarter of last night's game at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The Stars' Stephane Robidas tied the game 1-1 halfway through the period, before Darren Helm put the Red Wings ahead for good about five minutes later.
Goalie Chris Osgood stopped 17 shots over the next two periods. Dallas goalie Marty Turco made 32 saves.
The teams travel to Dallas for the third game in the best- of-seven playoff series May 12.
Today, Philadelphia plays at Pittsburgh. The Penguins lead the series 1-0.
