Eagles Cornerback Hobbs Lost for Season; Hanson Banned 4 Games

By Mason Levinson

Nov. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The Philadelphia Eagles lost cornerback Ellis Hobbs for the season with a neck injury, while backfield teammate Joselio Hanson was suspended four games for breaking the National Football League’s anti-doping policy.

Hobbs, a backup cornerback who returned kickoffs for the Eagles this season, injured his neck in Philadelphia’s 20-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 8, will have surgery which doctors believe will allow him to extend his career, the team said on its Web site.

The Eagles signed free-agent cornerback Ramzee Robinson, who was the last player selected in the 2007 NFL draft, to take his place on the roster.

Hanson, also a backup cornerback, was banned because of a positive drug test taken after the National Football Conference championship game last season, according to a statement from his attorney, David Cornwell. A telephone message left at Cornwell’s office wasn’t immediately returned.

Hanson took “a pill that turned out to be a diuretic” after feeling bloated following a meal of Chinese food, and did not take any steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs, Cornwell said, according to the statement.
