Seahawks' Shaun Alexander, NFL's MVP, Is Out With Broken Foot

By Mason Levinson

Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Shaun Alexander of the Seattle Seahawks, the National Football League's Most Valuable Player last season, is out indefinitely after breaking his foot during yesterday's 42-30 win over the New York Giants.

X-rays revealed the 29-year-old running back sustained a non- displaced fracture in his left foot, Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said at a news conference.

Alexander, who has had soreness in the foot since the Seahawks' season-opening win at Detroit, ran for 47 yards and a touchdown against the Giants. He has 187 yards and two rushing scores this season for the 3-0 Seahawks.

Last season, Alexander won the NFL's rushing title with 1,880 yards and set a single-season record with 28 rushing touchdowns. Alexander received a new six-year contract from the Seahawks in March worth $62 million.

Alexander, who is on the cover of Electronic Arts Inc.'s ``Madden 2007'' video game, is the latest NFL player to be injured or flop after getting the endorsement contract. So many athletes previously on the cover have subsequently been injured or flopped -- including quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick and running back Marshall Faulk -- that it's become known as ``the Madden jinx.''
