Feb. 29 (Bloomberg) -- New York Yankees broadcaster and former outfielder Bobby Murcer might have a recurrence of brain cancer, the New York Daily News reported on its Web site.
Murcer, 61, will undergo a biopsy in Houston on March 3 after an MRI exam revealed an area in his brain ``the doctors are concerned about,'' the newspaper said last night, quoting an e-mail it received from Murcer's wife, Kay, who said it is either scar tissue from radiation or another cancerous tumor.
Last March, Murcer said he was feeling ``terrific'' after an MRI showed that a brain tumor diagnosed three months earlier hadn't returned after surgery.
Murcer has spent 39 years with the Yankees as a player and broadcaster. The five-time all-star hit .277 with 252 home runs in 17 seasons. He spent some of his career playing with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris in the Yankees' outfield. He also played for San Francisco and the Chicago Cubs before retiring in 1983.
