June 21 (Bloomberg) -- Lucas Glover moved into a tie for the lead with Ricky Barnes at the start of the final round of the U.S. Open, seven shots ahead of defending champion Tiger Woods.
Barnes, the 2002 U.S. Amateur champion, opened the fourth round with a bogey, while Glover made par to leave the pair at 7-under par at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. Barnes led by as many as six shots during the third round today and was up by one after 54 holes.
The second major golf tournament of the year will finish tomorrow because of rain delays, the first non-playoff Monday finish at the Open since 1983.
Woods is even par after shooting a third-round 68 and starting the final round with two birdies and one bogey through seven holes. He birdied the seventh as darkness fell following the official end of play at 8 p.m. New York time. The tournament resumes at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Woods never has won a major championship after trailing through 54 holes, having been a leader or co-leader at all 14 of his major victories.
Woods has climbed into a tie for 10th place after beginning the final round with 14 players ahead of him.
Phil Mickelson, Hunter Mahan, David Duval and Ross Fisher are tied for third place at 2-under par, while Mike Weir is 1- under.
