Favre Trade to Buccaneers May Come in 24 Hours, Tribune Says

By Larry DiTore

Aug. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Brett Favre likely will be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a deal that may be completed in the next 24 hours, ending a monthlong standoff between the Green Bay Packers and the Pro-Bowl quarterback, the Tampa Tribune said.

Favre will not stand in the way of a trade and has indicated to the Buccaneers that he's willing to change teams after 16 years with the Packers, the Tribune reported, without saying where it got its information.

Favre, who retired in March only to say last month that he wanted to return to the National Football League, yesterday met with Packers coach Mike McCarthy for six hours of ``brutally honest'' talks. Afterward both said it would be best for them to part ways.

The three-time NFL Most Valuable Player has requested to talk about a trade with a divisional opponent such as the Minnesota Vikings or Chicago Bears, ESPN and other media said. The Buccaneers had expressed interest in Favre last month when he announced his intentions to return to the league.
