Nov. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Andy Murray started his quest for a first ATP World Tour Finals tennis title with a win over U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro.
The fourth-ranked Scot defeated the Argentine 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the first singles match in Group A in front of a sellout crowd at London’s O2 arena. Murray now leads the fifth-ranked Del Potro 5-1 in career meetings.
Top-ranked Roger Federer of Switzerland will play Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the evening in the other round-robin match in Group A. The Grand Slam record-holder has won the end-of- season event between the top eight players in the world four times. Novak Djokovic of Serbia is defending champion.
