Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) -- New York Giants defensive end Usi Umenyiora left yesterday's preseason game against the Jets with a knee injury.
Umenyiora, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, had to be helped off the field in the second quarter of the Giants' 10-7 loss to the Jets at Giants Stadium.
After the game, X-rays on his left knee were negative and an MRI exam is planned for today, the Giants said on their Web site.
Umenyiora led the Giants with 13 sacks last season as the team went on to defeat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
Jets quarterback Brett Favre, making his second start since being acquired from Green Bay, completed 9 of 12 passes for 96 yards over two quarters as the Jets improved to 2-1 in the preseason. Favre also had a touchdown pass negated by a penalty.
Eli Manning completed 10 of 17 passes for 113 yards as the Giants fell to 1-2.
