Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plc, Europe's second-biggest oil company, cut production on Alaska's North Slope by 30,000 barrels a day following a fire, company spokesman Ronnie Chappell said.
The fire, which occurred Oct. 6, was ``quickly extinguished'' and caused no injuries, Chappell said in a telephone interview. The damage will take two weeks to repair, he said. The incident occurred at Gathering Center 2, known as GC-2, in Prudhoe Bay.
The fire came a day after BP reported a 22 percent jump in production in the first three days of October, as the unit came back on line following three weeks of scheduled maintenance. That maintenance cut oil output by about 90,000 barrels a day.
The fire occurred two months after officials at Alaska's Division of Fire and Life Safety ordered BP to improve its fire detection systems and maintenance of equipment on oil fields it operates. That order stemmed from an Aug. 6 fire.
BP also had three other fires in August as well as a flaring incident in September.
Royal Dutch Shell Plc is the largest European oil company.
