Dec. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Big West Oil LLC, which has two refineries in the U.S., has halted taking deliveries after parent Flying J Inc. filed for bankruptcy, the Bakersfield Californian newspaper reported, citing a crude supplier.
Big West has refused shipments of oil and may be carrying out maintenance, the newspaper said, citing David Wolf, chief executive officer of Berry Petroleum Co. Big West has no plans to close or change operations, company spokesman Peter Hill told the newspaper. Flying J declined to comment, the newspaper said.
Berry Petroleum supplies all its Californian oil to Big West’s Bakersfield refinery and has cut output to 5,000 barrels of oil a day from 17,000 barrels a day, the Denver-based company said in a Dec. 29 filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Big West was not able to receive oil because of “interruptions in its other business relationships,” the filing said, referring to a Dec. 23 note to Berry.
The Bakersfield refinery has a processing capacity of 68,000 barrels a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Big West also has a 30,000 barrel-a-day plant in Salt Lake City.
