June 4 (Bloomberg) -- The world’s biggest natural-gas exporters may meet in Doha, Qatar on June 30 as they pursue greater collaboration at a time of plummeting prices, an Iranian oil official said.
“This is the first meeting since the approval of the group’s statute last December,” Mohammad Ali Khatibi, Iran’s Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries governor, said by phone from Tehran today. “They will discuss some very important issues,” he added, declining to reveal the agenda.
The 15-member Gas Exporting Countries Forum agreed on a charter in December transforming it from a loose, consultative body into a formal organization with headquarters in Doha.
Officials from the forum met in Moscow this week to decide the agenda for the June meeting, Khatibi said. Some ministers are yet to confirm their attendance, he added.
