Corzine Says Clinton Needs Big Pennsylvania Win to Stay in Race

By Nancy Moran

April 3 (Bloomberg) -- New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, a backer of Hillary Clinton's presidential bid, said the race for the Democratic nomination may be over if she fails to win big in Pennsylvania's April 22 primary.

``I think she needs a good, big win,'' Corzine said in an interview on CNBC today, describing himself as an ``aggressive supporter'' of the New York senator. ``You have to see a real cut into this popular vote, and I think she's going to get it.''

Obama, an Illinois senator, leads Clinton by roughly 700,000 popular votes in primaries and caucuses held so far. That doesn't include those from Florida and Michigan, which the party stripped of their delegates for moving up their contests to early this year. Obama is ahead of Clinton with 1,634 to 1,500 delegates pledged in primaries and caucuses, according to the Associated Press.

Corzine, one of the 794 superdelegates who also will have a say in the nomination, said the Democrats should pay for new primaries in Florida and Michigan.

``I think it's crazy for Democrats to walk away from two of the biggest states, tell them that we're uninterested in their point of view,'' he said. ``There's no reason to end up having people feel like this wasn't a fair fight and somebody got pushed out of it prematurely.''
