Lehman Trustee Seeks Part of $18 Billion for Brokerage Clients

Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- The trustee liquidating Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.’s brokerage asked a judge how much of the $18 billion raised by the bankrupt investment bank as it winds down its operations can be used to pay brokerage customers.

James Giddens, the trustee for Lehman Brothers Inc., received more than 12,500 customer claims by the June 1 deadline for filing such requests, he said in a statement yesterday. He has “administered” more than $110 billion so far, after transferring more than $92 billion in accounts to other brokers, he said.

Lehman said in September it had received more than 16,000 claims from creditors worldwide, including its own affiliates.

The case is In re Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., 08- 13555, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan).
