South Korea to Decide on Anti-Dumping Duties on Stainless Steel

By Sungwoo Park

Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- South Korea’s trade commission is meeting companies to review a possible extension of anti-dumping duties on stainless steel bars from Japan, India and Spain.

The Korea Trade Commission held a hearing session today with related parties on the duties, which have been in place for the past five years, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said in an e-mailed statement today.

The commission will make a final decision next month, the ministry said. South Korean producers including Posco Specialty Steel Co. asked for an extension, while foreign rivals including Sanyo Special Steel Co. wanted to terminate the measure, it said.

South Korea last year imported 16,914 metric tons, worth 91.3 billion won ($77 million), of the products used in auto parts, construction and machinery, the statement said.
