Lakers' Bryant Settles Rape-Case Accuser's Civil Suit, AP Says

By Alex Morales

March 3 (Bloomberg) -- The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant and a 20-year-old woman who accused him of rape settled a civil suit she filed against him, meaning the National Basketball Association star won't face a trial in connection with the allegations, the Associated Press reported, citing his lawyers.

The matter has been resolved ``to the satisfaction of both parties,'' who have agreed not to comment on the case, the lawyers said in a statement faxed to AP without providing details. A motion to dismiss the suit, filed in a federal court in Denver, stipulates the case can't be refiled, AP said.

A Colorado District Court judge on Sept. 1 dismissed a criminal case against Bryant, 26, after charges were dropped by the woman. Her civil suit was filed three weeks before that, and sought unspecified damages for mental injuries and the public scorn the woman said she suffered as a result of a June 2003 encounter with Bryant at a Colorado resort, according to AP.
